Under the spelling Foraii he appears in Weyer's lists; Marax and Morax are later variants, and no firm etymology supports any of them. The text grants him a double grade, Earl and President: Mars on one side, Mercury on the other, that is, command over thirty legions combined with the teaching office the grimoire assigns to its Presidents. What the operator sought from him was knowledge: astronomy, the complete liberal arts and, above all, familiars expert in the virtues of herbs and stones, a central matter of the natural magic of the period. His bull's form with a human face inverts the order of the Minotaur.
