The name Purson, also Curson or Pursan, already circulates in Johann Weyer's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum before passing into the Goetia; whatever lies behind it is undocumented, and the manuscript does not clarify the matter. He is given the rank of Great King, the highest grade in the catalogue, tied to the Sun and to authority over other spirits, though his twenty-two legions leave him far short of the more populous kings. He is summoned to locate hidden treasure, to know what is concealed, and to answer on things past, present and to come; he also grants good familiars and takes an aerial or human body at will.
