Murmur means "murmur" or "rumour" in Latin, and the manuscript does not say whether the coincidence is deliberate. He unites two grades, Duke and Earl, with thirty legions: the Venusian register of the dukedom and the martial one of the earldom coexist in a single entry. He teaches philosophy, but his characteristic service is necromancy, since he compels the souls of the dead to appear and to answer whatever is asked of them, which makes him one of the book's most explicitly necromantic entries. He arrives mounted on a vulture or a griffin, wearing a ducal crown, preceded by two ministers sounding great trumpets.
