Alloces, Allocer, Allocen: three spellings for a name with no known antecedent. With thirty-six legions under his command, he holds the grade of Duke, a rank the text links to Venus, although his repertoire has nothing amorous about it. What he teaches is astronomy and all the liberal arts, and he gives good familiars besides, those lesser spirits left in the operator's service that the Goetia hands out with some frequency. He is, in practice, a teacher with a retinue. The manuscript describes him as a soldier with a red, lion-like face and flaming eyes, on an enormous horse, his voice hoarse and rough.
