A noisy peacock before a man: so Andrealphus enters the catalogue, with no alternative spellings recorded and no known origin. A Marquis by rank, which is to say the Moon in the manuscript's planetary distribution, with thirty legions. What was asked of him is notably scholastic: geometry, mensuration and astronomy taught to perfection, in other words the exact disciplines of the quadrivium. To this the text adds a power at odds with the rest, the ability to turn a man into a bird. That a spirit in the shape of a peacock should grant precisely that metamorphosis makes for one of the cleanest symmetries in the list.
