He appears under the spellings Gamigin and Gamygyn, with no documented etymology worth asserting. The grimoire calls him a Great Marquis - a lunar rank, of middling standing - with 30 legions in his charge, and gives him a minor form: a small horse or ass that, when commanded, takes human shape and speaks in a hoarse voice. His speciality is twofold and somewhat incongruous: he teaches the liberal sciences, that is, the school curriculum of the period, and gives account of the souls of those who died in sin. The operator could use him as a tutor or as an intermediary with those dead.
