He also circulates as Eligor and Abigor, without a settled etymology for any of the three forms. A Great Duke of Venusian rank, he commands 60 legions and presents himself as a handsome knight with lance, banner and serpent, one of the few figures in the catalogue to appear outright as a man-at-arms. His speciality combines military and political intelligence: he discovers hidden things, knows how wars will end, and procures the favour and love of lords and great personages. He was consulted by whoever had troops or depended on a powerful patron: his implicit clientele is courtly.
