"God who humbles the proud": so Nanael is translated, formed from three letters of the Shem HaMephorash and the ending -EL, which inscribes him within power. Lenain places him among the Principalities, the choir that in Pseudo-Dionysius attends to nations and communities, under Haniel, from 13 to 16 December. He is invoked for the higher sciences, for law and for contemplative seclusion. Caim, his goetic counterpart, understands the voice of birds and of water: listening to the world against study of the heavens.
