The only spirit in this block with a double title: Great President and Earl, that is, two ranks at once - Mercury for the first, Mars for the second - commanding 60 legions. He appears as a loathsome viper and, when so ordered, as a man with great teeth, two horns and a sharp sword in his hand. Despite that armament, his competences are those of an intermediary: to declare past and future and to reconcile friends and enemies alike. No documented etymology of the name exists; the variant Otis appears in some manuscript copies of the Goetia.
