En la tradición cabalística el nombre se forma con tres letras del Shemhamphorash y el sufijo -EL, que apunta a la potencia; se traduce «Dios de misericordia». Aquí empieza el coro de los Querubines, guardianes del conocimiento y de la plenitud de la ciencia divina según Pseudo-Dionisio, bajo el arcángel Raziel, del 1 al 5 de mayo. Se le invoca para obtener perdón y para reconciliarse con quien ofende. Su contraparte es Paimon, rey que somete la voluntad ajena: sujeción impuesta contra clemencia otorgada.

In the kabbalistic tradition the name is formed from three letters of the Shem HaMephorash and the suffix -EL, which points to power; it is rendered "God of mercy." Here begins the choir of the Cherubim, guardians of knowledge and of the fullness of divine science according to Pseudo-Dionysius, under the archangel Raziel, from 1 to 5 May. It is invoked to obtain pardon and to be reconciled with the one who has given offence. Its counterpart is Paimon, the king who bends another's will: subjection imposed against clemency freely granted.
